Glulam is in the running to feature in the basketball and fencing arenas at the London 2012 Olympic Games after the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) revealed the design teams shortlisted to tender for the venues.

Moelven Glulam is to work alongside Oslo-based Biong Architects and fellow Norwegian construction consultant Olav Olsen as part of one design team invited to tender and 8,000 capacity fencing arenas.

“We are looking for design teams to provide innovative solutions for important temporary arenas such as basketball and fencing,” said ODA chief executive David Higgins.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the submissions put forward from the impressive teams on the shortlist.”

Kato Sveen, from Moelven Glulam, said that the company would be meeting with the architects next month to begin work on a design to submit for the venues.

Other companies on the shortlist include NÜSSLI International Ltd, which constructed the wood elements of the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2007 in London’s Hyde Park, and architects Faber Maunsell.
