The Rochdale headquarters of Chandos Timber Engineering and Karmo Civil Engineering

Chandos Timber Engineering, the Rochdale-based timber frame construction specialist, has bolstered its offer with the launch of a groundworks service

Timber-frame business Chandos Timber Engineering has launched a sister company, Karmo Civil Engineering.

Chandos supplies timber frames, floors and roof trusses to housebuilders from its manufacturing base in Rochdale, Lancs. Now it says it has identified further growth potential and setting up its own service offering groundworks to its clients. The new services include slabs, foundations and footings, drainage and site entry/exit roads and car parks.

Chandos managing director Paul Abbott explained: “The secret to a quality timber frame building is a good slab to begin with - if another sub-contractor has build a sub-standard slab then the best timber frame company in the world will have a very difficult time building the best structure.

“We have grown rapidly and built our good reputation by being extremely strict on quality control, and by taking responsibility for the groundworks ourselves we now have even better control.”

The new company is based at Chandos’ Rochdale headquarters, and has already commenced some works for existing Chandos customers including developer Livesey in the north west.

The establishment of Karmo Civil Engineering has already created 30 jobs in the region, and it is expected to grow at the same rapid rate as its parent company if future deals for timber and groundworks go hand in hand.
