Canada makes UK comeback
Autumn 2006
Published: 22 October, 2006
The Canadian industry has proved itself responsive to UK market demand Timber shortages and price rises in Europe are proving beneficial to eastern Canadian producers targeting the UK. “Eastern Canadian 2x3in CLS is once again competing against European supplies, at a time when European prices are showing a tendency to firm, sterling is strengthening against the Canadian dollar and North American prices are weakening,” said Patrick Cooper of Canada Wood UK. It was evidence that the Canadian industry was responsive to UK market demand, he added. “People forget that CLS stands for Canadian Lumber Standard, and that Canadian CLS was the original framework for UK timber frame construction, becoming the industry standard widely copied by other producer countries.” “A lot of customers would love to have Canadian product back and now is the opportunity,” said Chris Skelton, UK sales manager at Tembec Europe Ltd. “It is great to have the product line back at a time when prices from other European sources are rising.” Related articles: |
