JELD-WEN gets community minded
Autumn 2006
Published: 22 October, 2006
Communal stairs must meet standards in relation to the strength and weight bearing of the flight and the handrail or baluster As the number of apartments planned for private and social housing developments continues to rise, JELD-WEN has responded with the development of a communal timber staircase. Product manager Tony Pell said the trend for apartments opened up huge opportunities for timber stairs to become more widely specified as they offered benefits in terms of aesthetics, acoustics and performance. The new communal staircase meets all relevant British standards and the British Woodworking Federation's technical guidance for timber stairs which says that communal stairs must meet standards in relation to the strength and weight bearing of the flight and the handrail or baluster.
