Asda follows Tesco with timber frame store
Published: 13 June, 2007
Finnforest UK has won the contract to supply the timber frame components for Asda's first eco-sensitive store Finnforest, which provided glulam, Kerto LVL and Thermowood for Tesco's first eco-store (Timber Building Winter 2006), said it believes it is poised to gain further as other store groups follow into timber construction. The company will supply 400m3 of glulam for the frame and also Kerto LVL. The 35,000ft2 building, which will be 20% more energy efficient than Asda's existing outlets, will be built by Bowmer & Kirkland on the site of Shaw mill near Oldham. Finnforest is also supplying timber frame components for Tesco's second eco-store which is under construction in Shrewsbury. “Other key players in the fast-moving consumer goods sector have made statements as to how they are to build going forward,” said Kevin Riley, head of building solutions for Finnforest. “Others will follow suit as they do not wish to be left behind. It is very much about winning the hearts and minds of consumers.” Related articles: |
