RHS wanted the cafe to create architectural impact |
With strict timescales, Framework CDM delivered an off site construction solution for the Royal Horticultural Society's new cafe
Framework CDM has provided a sustainable offsite construction solution for a new gourmet style café situated in the shadow of a landmark visitors’ attraction at the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society).
To complement the stunning Glasshouse - a huge cathedral-like glass structure that covers an area equal to 10 tennis courts - and provide visitors with a place to sit and enjoy their surroundings, the RHS required a new cafe.
Rather than an informal eating place, RHS wanted a gourmet style cafe that would enhance the visitors’ experience while creating an architectural impact. Finally, the solution also had to meet strict construction timescales, ensuring minimum disruption on site.
Framework’s off site construction solution comprises a series of factory produced timber wall, floor and roof panels, each individually manufactured and fitted together on site to create the desired structure. Its fast track construction enabled the project to be completed faster than conventional masonry construction, minimising disruption to the garden’s visitors.
Framework designed the cafe to incorporate extensive glazing, flooding the café with natural light as well as delivering views over the gardens. Externally the building was clad in cedar to blend with the surrounding woodland, and features a gently pitched roof with a standing seam mill finished aluminium roof covering.
