Lacquer therapy at St Johns
Summer 2007
Published: 18 June, 2007
Lacquered timber is to be used to offset the “civic scale” of a concrete construction Developer Building Better Health has said that the use of timber cladding on the St Johns Therapy Centre in Wandsworth has brought “warmth and richness” to the project. Some 2,847m2 of lacquered Spanish timber was used on the building, which is leased by Wandsworth Primary Care Trust (PCT) and incorporates services for stroke victims, a mental health unit for drug and alcohol dependence and two GP practices. Building Better Health added that the timber cladding was chosen as it won’t weather and will be “reminiscent of 18th century furniture or a musical instrument”, both requirements of the PCT’s design brief.
