Organisers of the UK’s biggest building show are offering timber companies caught out by the cancellation of The Timber Show special deals to exhibit
Exhibitors left high and dry after the cancellation of The Timber Show have been thrown a lifeline by organisers of Interbuild, who are offering special deals to exhibit at the show.
After discussions with TTJ, Interbuild event director James Gower said that Timber Show exhibitors would be offered a deal on a Timber Zone or Interbuild stand to help offset any loss they may have made preparing for The Timber Show, which was cancelled last week.
“In collaboration with TTJ, we have negotiated a special arrangement for exhibitors which had already signed up and made a financial commitment to the Timber Show,” said Mr Gower. “There are huge opportunities for timber companies at Interbuild 2008 and I’m pleased to be in a position where I can offer those affected some tangible compensation.”
Dozens of timber companies are still owed thousands of pounds after organisers East Exhibitions pulled the plug on The Timber Show only a matter of weeks before it opened its doors.
Exhibitors had been making their final preparations for the March 11-13 event at ExCeL London when organiser East Exhibitions announced it was going into liquidation after being unsuccessful in securing additional funding to stage the show.
A creditors meeting has been organised at insolvency practitioner Irwin & Company in Sutton Coldfield on February 22, when East Exhibitions will be placed into liquidation.
East Exhibitions said it was “deeply sorry” about the cancellation.
“Our decision to cancel the event has been taken with the greatest reluctance, and we are greatly distressed that this action will affect most those companies that have shown us their support,” said director Martin Pearce.
The Timber Show attracted about 1,000 visitors and more than 60 exhibitors at its inaugural event in 2006. Reaction was mixed, with some exhibitors complaining about low visitor numbers, but others picking up quality contacts and business.
