Designs for Frank Gehry’s Serpentine Gallery Pavilion |
Timber will form the main structure of this summer's Serpentine Gallery Pavilion
Celebrated architect Frank Gehry has chosen timber as the main structure for this summer’s Serpentine Gallery Pavilion.
Designs just released by the Serpentine Gallery show a collection of large timber planks and multiple glass planes that “soar and swoop” at different angles to create a multi-dimensional space.
“The Pavilion is designed as a wooden timber structure that acts as an urban street running from the park to the existing Gallery,” said Mr Gehry.
The Pavilion, Mr Gehry’s first built structure in England, was welcomed by the gallery’s director Julia Peyton-Jones as “extraordinary and a “visionary scheme”.
The structure, billed as “part-ampitheatre and part-promenade, includes five elevated seating pods.
