Online Learning is the first of its kind for wood and wood products

Coillte Panel Products and wood for good hope their online learning resource will become the first choice provider of entry-level timber education

Coillte Panel Products and wood for good are expanding their online training resource with two new topics.

The two companies have been working extensively to develop two new education topics - Module 16: OSB (Oriented Strand Board) and Module 17: MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) - for the website - www.timberacademy.co.uk.

wood for good’s Online Learning is the first of its kind for wood and wood products. It provides architects and engineers with 24-hour access to accurate, up-to date information on topics such as engineered wood products, timber protection, sustainability and other related issues. wood for good is a member of RIBA’s CPD Providers Network so architects can use the resource to earn approximately 50% of their required annual CPD time.

Both the OSB and MDF modules investigate how these sustainable wood products evolved, their manufacturing processes, grading requirements, and regulations and standards, as well as their uses, applications and design potential, and the Coillte and Online Learning development teams worked closely together to ensure that the information provided is accurate and relevant.

Charles Trevor, managing director of wood for good said: “Coillte Panel Products realised the need for a generic timber information resource and understand the possibilities of Online Learning, and their decision to sponsor and work with us means we now have two new important additions to our library.

"This is another step toward the industry being able to provide a ‘one stop shop’ for timber information for architects and specifiers. We are working even harder to ensure that anyone planning to use wood can find the information they want quickly and easily. The online learning resource will continue to expand to include new modules and we hope it will become the first choice provider of entry level timber education for architects, members and trade.”

Geoff Rhodes, Coillte Panel Product’s Marketing and Business Development Director said: “OSB and MDF both have great potential and offer real solutions for construction, architecture and design and these new modules provide essential information in a focused way.

"Specifying the right product for the right job is important for all wood products – not just OSB and MDF. wood for good’s Online Learning resource will ensure the right information reaches the right people, and our sponsorship of this project forms part of the technical support we provide for all our products, and underlines our ongoing commitment to best practice.”
