Summer 2007
Published: 18 June, 2007
The first batch of sustainable homes to come out of the partnership between housebuilder George Wimpey and architect Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (RSHP) have been unveiled at Oxley Woods, Milton Keynes The homes, built as part of the government’s Design for Manufacture competition, are constructed from double-layered closed panel timber frames manufactured by Boston-based Guildway Ltd, part of the Walker Timber Group. Each property has been designed to meet the government’s sustainable home targets and uses innovative features to further its eco-friendly credentials, including an EcoHat to allow the recycling of hot air. “We are extremely proud of Oxley Woods, which has allowed us to offer greater choice for the eco-conscious customer,” said Graeme Dodds, | Wimpey divisional managing director. Timber frame use has allowed engineering company Joynes Pike & Associates to reduce the use of concrete in the foundations at Oxley Woods by 40%. A total of 145 properties will be built using 10 different designs, with 56 built to Design for Manufacture specification. Related articles: |
