Pinewood Structures chief executive Geoff Arnold

Pinewood targets affordable housing
Published:  13 June, 2008

With its acquisition of architectural and construction consultancy Avebury Projects, Pinewood Structures is targeting the affordable housing sector

Timber frame supplier Pinewood Structures is looking to expand into the affordable housing sector with the acquisition of Avebury Projects.

Milton Keynes-based Avebury Projects has been operating countrywide as a construction consultancy with a focus on affordable and sustainable housing since 1986.

The acquisition, through Pinewood Structures' parent company PXP Holdings Ltd, aims to develop the group’s offer to the affordable housing sector, particularly as clients strive to meet the stringent requirements of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

Pinewood Structures, established in 1981 and subject to a MBO in 2006, is one of the largest manufacturers of timber frame structures in the UK. It focuses on providing sustainable timber frame solutions to the affordable and private housing sectors and its customers include major contractors and housing developers such as Taylor Wimpey, St James Group, JLP, Bellway Homes and Persimmon Homes.

Chief executive Geoff Arnold said: “Our acquisition of Avebury Projects means we can give our existing and future clients a one-stop solution and provide the most environmentally-friendly homes available.

"Project management and architecture are perfect fits for Pinewood Structures and with Avebury’s background in low carbon housing we are sure that the affordable housing sector and registered social landlords (RSLs) will be attracted to a company which can provide a seamless solution, from design right the way through to construction with the guarantee that their homes are the most sustainable available.”

Gareth Lewis who will lead Avebury Projects as managing director added: “We aim to continue to develop our architectural and project management services through growing both our extensive framework agreements with RSLs and existing partnerships with the private sector.

"Private house builders increasingly need the knowledge and support Avebury Projects can offer in the sustainability field to meet the new standards, plus we can guide and advise on the interface with RSLs.

"Current market conditions will offer new and exciting challenges to the housing sector as a whole and Avebury Projects can assist participants in all of its facets to maximise efficient and sustainable outputs.”
