Summer 2007
Published: 18 June, 2007
More than 50,000 linear metres of Baltic pine is being used to replace Manchester Velodrome's world famous cycling track ISG Totty Building is to replace the cycle track at the Manchester Veldrome, with 54,000 linear metres of Baltic pine set to be laid on the circuit. The track is being replaced sooner than expected due to continued use by elite and amateur cyclists, coupled with the need to provide the best surface for British cyclists preparing for the 2008 Beijing Games. Baltic pine will be used for its fine grain density. The 600x40x40mm boards will be kiln dried and transported to Manchester three weeks before construction work begins to allow the timber to acclimatise.
