Marsh centre stars in Architecture Week
Summer 2007
Published: 18 June, 2007
A cutting-edge, sustainable visitor centre utilising Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) timber has been completed by LSI Architects in Norfolk The centre, at the Norfolk Wildlife Trust Cley Marshes Nature Reserve, has been designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible and played a part in Architecture Week 2007, which ran from June 15-24. Sustainable design is a key theme for this year’s Architecture Week and, as such, the visitor centre was designed to fit this topic. “To satisfy the budget and client brief for an ‘environmentally sound building’, we developed a suitable specification based upon locally sourced, readily available products that were familiar to the builder,” said LSI Architects’ David Thompson. “Timber products are FSC-certified throughout and natural paint finishes including…natural hardwax for wood and plywood surfaces were opted for.” Treated timber and weather and boil-proof ply were used to create an innovative roof edge profile for the £406,000 centre.
