Record number of entries for awards that showcase the best in timber construction

The Wood Awards 2007 have received 222 category entries, beating last year’s record total.

The competition, which recognises excellence in the use of timber in construction, interiors and furniture design, has received projects from around the UK, ranging from major buildings like the new Marlowe Academy in Ramsgate, which has a timber and sheet materials gridshell roof, to small projects such as a composting toilet in Eccleshall Woods near Sheffield made of larch and London plane lathe.

The Wood Awards organisers say they are happy with the number, calibre and variety of entries.

“Each year we’re seeing more diversity,” said a spokesperson for the Awards. “Architects and builders are clearly becoming more daring and adventurous in the way they use timber and the type of building they use it in.”

The shortlist for the Awards will be announced at the 100% Detail exhibition in September and the winners announced at Carpenters’ Hall in London on October 19.
