Opaque finish is on song
Summer 2007

Cetol BL Opaque was used to finish timber cladding at the centre

An opaque timber finish has been used to make a timber-clad building shine out as a beacon to endangered birds

The £2.2m Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) Purfleet Environment and Education Centre in Rainham, Essex has been clad in pale grey, dusty pink, orange and umber timber weatherboarding, with Sikken’s Cetol BL Opaque coating used to protect the boards and to ensure “that the colour will remain vivid and attractive without fading for many years”.

“This was a particularly challenging project because of the unusual specification and shape of the structure,” said Martin Roberts from T & G Roberts, the painting contractor that applied the finish to the concrete RSPB centre.
