Timber projects shortlisted for Stephen Lawrence Prize

Two timber construction projects on the Wood Awards shortlist have now also been shortlisted for the Stephen Lawrence Prize.
Simon Conder Associates’ El Ray beach house and Niall McLaughin Architects’ Deal Pier café and bar are in the five-strong shortlist. The Stephen Lawrence prize recognises exceptional projects under £1m. El Ray, constructed at Dungeness by Ecolibrium Solutions, is made from I-joists supplied by Steico, FSC-certified hardwood and birch plywood, as well as Kerto LVL from Finnforest. Deal Pier café and bar comprises a series of trussed portal frames in iroko, with individual timber lengths connected by stainless steel flitch plates.
