Norwegian plan for world’s tallest timber tower
Published:  18 September, 2009

A 16-17 storey tower project in Norway is being billed as the world’s tallest timber structure.

The plan for the Cultural Centre in the Arctic border town of Kirkenes was unveiled by the Norwegian Barents Secretariat and is designed to be a beacon of knowledge and development.

Reiulf Ramsrad Architects has designed the tower, which is based on traditional architecture from Russia, Sweden, Finland and Norway.

The secretariat’s aim is for the structure to be a showcase for sustainable construction, as well as house its own offices, a theatre, library and a creative environment for artists, students and researchers.
