Aurora House meets Code Level 5
Published: 21 December, 2009
A partnership between timber merchant MGM Timber (Scotland) Ltd, Dawn Homes and South Lanarkshire College has resulted in what the partners call the first affordable eco-home for the mass market. The Aurora house, which also involved 20 other private sector partners, has been built at the college to Level 5 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. It was commissioned to provide students with a hands-on demonstration of the principles of sustainable design. Selkirk-based Oregon Timber Frame Engineering supplied the structure, using Norbord’s Sterling OSB for sheathing and Caberdeck flooring. The house, which features rainwater harvesting and heat-recovery technology, is now being monitored by scientists at Glasgow Caledonian University for its energy performance. Related articles: |
