Glulam building to achieve highest-ever BREEAM rating

A £3.3m glulam learning centre which is expected to achieve the highest-ever BREEAM rating for a bespoke building has officially opened today. The Bramall Learning Centre at RHS Garden Harlow Carr in Harrogate, designed by Eco Arc Architects, features an innovative S-shaped design with eco-friendly features including a triple-glazed front elevation, sedum roof and renewable energy. The glulam structure and triple-glazed timber windows were created by a local joinery firm The design is already attracting widespread recognition and the building has been shortlisted by RIBA for a 2010 White Rose Award for design excellence.
