The award-winning oak frame shop at Pashley Manor

Oak frame project wins heritage award
Published:  22 July, 2010

English Heritage Buildings has won a prestigious Sussex Heritage Trust Award for its design and construction of a new oak frame shop at Pashley Manor in Ticehurst, East Sussex.

The building, which won the commercial category, is set at the entrance to the Manor and provides a showpiece entry to the public gardens beyond.

The annual awards recognise conservation, restoration and new-build projects in Sussex, rewarding good design, traditional skills and craftsmanship.

“This building serves as a testament to the passion behind its construction,” said the judges. “The materials were chosen with great care so as to keep improving and complementing their surroundings as they mature.”

Darren Hook, managing director of English Heritage Buildings, said the Pashley Manor project was a “fantastic” job to be involved with.

The company recently became the only oak frame specialist to achieve the BM TRADA Q-Mark certification.
