Mactaggart lands timber frame contracts
Published:  28 July, 2010

Timber frame manufacturer Mactaggart & Mickel Timber Systems has secured two new contracts to deliver its one-stop-shop building solution.

Worth in excess of £500,000, the contracts will see the firm design, supply and erect timber frames for two housing developments.
The company will provide timber frames on behalf of Ogilvie Homes, from design to erection, for a block of 24 flats at the Queen Elizabeth Square development in Glasgow’s Gorbals area.

The flats are the final phase of the development, which consists of 85 homes in 11 modern, energy-efficient closes, and are part of the award-winning programme of regeneration in the Hutchesontown district of the Gorbals.
Mactaggart has also secured a contract for the first phase of a 172-unit private housing development at Carnbroe in North Lanarkshire and will begin the supply of 42 houses in October.
Both builds will use open panel timber frames, with floor cassettes being used at Queen Elizabeth Square. Completed floor cassettes, manufactured at Mactaggart & Mickel Timber Systems’ factory, allow upper floors to be fitted quickly and efficiently, enabling a faster build, particularly beneficial in the construction of flats.
“We are very much looking forward to working with our partners on these contracts and using our expertise to deliver their U-value requirements by employing the latest technologies in airtightness, insulation and thermal bridging,” said David Parker, business development manager for Mactaggart & Mickel Timber Systems.
