Midas project manager Peter Turner at the nursery project

Prince takes interest in timber frame project
Published:  03 May, 2011

An £830,000 new timber frame tearoom and shop for the Duchy of Cornwall has been completed by Midas Construction.

The Prince of Wales is said to have taken a personal interest in the project for the Duchy of Cornwall Nurseries near Lostwithiel, which grows and sells one of the best range of conifers in the UK.

Timber for the project came entirely from the Duchy Estates, including larch for cladding, oak for posts and joinery and cedar for the shingle roof.

Estate wood is also being used to feed a biomass boiler.

“The new tea room and shop at the Duchy of Cornwall Nurseries really has the ‘wow’ factor and will undoubtedly increase visitor numbers dramatically,” said Midas’ Mike O’Neill.

“The Prince of Wales has taken a personal interest in the project’s progress with his sister-in-law, Annabelle Elliot, providing the interior design. It’s a fantastic looking building located specifically to over look the ruins of Restormel Castle.”
