SoundBar used at army camp development
Published: 13 October, 2011
Finnforest’s SoundBar system features in new timber frame MOD accommodation at Catterick Camp. The system, which comprises the Finnjoist I-joist, Lafarge Gyvlon’s self-levelling screed and Finnforest’s SoundBar Board, which deadens sound to control transfer between floors. The building has been built by Mansell, with Wave Homes the specialist timber frame supplier. The design team was led by Preston-based Croft Goode Architects. SoundBar, which has is own Robust Detail, reduced the need for on-site craneage, storage and waste disposal as Finjoists, SoundBar board and Lafarge screed are delivered direct to site. Finnforest says on-site testing has shown the system has an improvement of more than 5dB in both airborne and impact testing. Kevin Riley, vice-president construction industry for Finnforest, said SoundBar was popular for flatted developments like Catterick, but was also seeing a “remarkable uptake” in other sectors where sound transmission between intermediate floors was an issue, such as care homes and student accommodation.
