Europe’s largest straw bale constructed buildings have been topped out at Inspire Bradford Business Park.

Bradford East MP David Ward attended the ceremony at the business park in Eccleshill which was hosted by Newlands Community Association, owner of the £4m development.

Straw Bale specialist ModCell used 260 48cm-thick prefabricated timber frame/straw bale wall panels in the development, which is due for completion early next year.

Once complete, the business park will feature 14 fully serviced offices and 14 flexible work spaces within two buildings constructed with timber frame and straw bales.

The business park, constructed by Stainforth Construction, will also act as a community facility, providing training, education, care and social activities.

Funding for the development came from a £1m grant from the European Regional Development Fund programme in Yorkshire and the Humber, £1m from the Communitybuilders Fund, £990,000 from Bradford Council’s Local Enterprise Growth Initiative and a £1m mortgage from The Charity Bank.
