The new I-joist frame sits outside the original oak frame

An engineered wood structure is being built outside an existing oak frame barn in a residential conversion project in High Wycombe.

Canterbury-based Eco Frame Systems is supplying the I-joist frame for Parmoor Barn, an old barn which is having a new lease of life in the project by architects Danksbadnell.

Barn owner Skillbond Ltd wants the project to reach the Passivhaus standard, achieving an airtightness of at least 0.6 to achieve Passivhaus certification.

Eco Frame has full responsibility for the timber frame, insulation, roof tiles,  airtightness, Gaulhofer triple-glazed windows and doors.

The barn was previously dilapidated, but the oak structure is being retained as an internal feature.
