Aberdeen’s ground-breaking timber frame council house project
Published: 16 November, 2011
Aberdeen’s first council housing project in over 30 years - 85 timber frame homes constructed to meet Level 5 of the Code for Sustainable Homes – has been completed by Stewart Milne Construction. The timber frame system was delivered to three sites by Stewart Milne Timber Systems and represents the first phase of Aberdeen City Council’s new-build social housing programme. A mixture of two and three-bedroom family properties have been completed in Northfield and Tillydrone in addition to a range of one and two-bedroom homes for varying needs in Cults. They have been designed to integrate five renewable energy sources including air source heat pumps, solar thermal panels, photovoltaic cells, mechanical ventilation heat recovery, as well as grey water recycling and rainwater harvesting for the houses. Bill Imlach, managing director of Stewart Milne Construction, said: “With sustainability at the top of the housebuilding agenda and an ever increasing demand for quality public sector housing, the Aberdeen City Council newbuild programme has proved itself an industry-leading initiative. “ Aberdeen City Council’s housing and environment convener, Aileen Malone, said everyone involved in the programme must be congratulated as the standard of the build is second to none.
