Ecojoist: a precision-engineered structural component

With a significant investment in its factory, Goodwins Timber Frame hopes to continue to grow its timber engineering business, which utilises Ecojoist in flooring production

Goodwins Timber Frame expanding its factory in order to further facilitate the growing demand for timber components.

The move marks a significant investment by the Tullow-based timber engineering company , for whom Ecojoist from Gang-Nail Systems represents 99% of all its floors produced .

Providing timber frame solutions to major housebuilders and developers, Goodwins Timber Frame has developed specialist expertise in the creation of both timber frame houses and apartment buildings of up to six storeys in height.

Ecojoist lends itself to both types of construction because it is a precision-engineered structural component that consists of parallel stress graded timber flanges joined together with V-shaped galvanised steel webs.

The open web feature is also designed to provide the developer more space not only for insulation but also for electrical and plumbing services – reducing the installation time onsite and increasing the ease with which this is achieved.

Brendan Osborne of Goodwins Timber Frame said: “The factory extension has allowed us to move the Ecojoist press into the correct position within the floor cassette line. This is an imperative part of ensuring the efficient production of Ecojoist, which now represents in excess of 99% of all the floors we produce for our customers.”

The increased popularity of timber floor components like Gang-Nail Systems’ Ecojoist is reflective of the wider popularity of timber frame building components.

“Housebuilders and developers are increasingly aware of the benefits of timber frame as a means of simplifying site logistics, reducing time on site and fulfilling their environmental obligations,” explained Paul Baron, managing director of Gang-Nail Systems.
