Smartroof was chosen for its sustainability

When Barratt Developments was looking for a high level of sustainability for its Green House roofing solution, it turned to RK Timber Engineering's Smartroof for the answer

RK Timber Engineering has supplied its green roofing system Smartroof for Barratt Developments’ Green House at the BRE Exhibition Centre in Watford.
Designed to meet Code Level 6 within the Code for Sustainable Homes, the roof incorporates 200mm PIR board from Celotex to ensure energy efficiency and compliance with the Code.
The Barratt Green House, which was developed by architects Gaunt Francis, won the Home for the Future 2007 competition at the Mail on Sunday British Homes Awards.
Terry Ritchie, group technical manager at Barratt Developments PLC said: “RK Timber Engineering is at the forefront of the provision of the latest offerings in engineered timber solutions – we wanted to work with someone that offered us the best in design expertise and the experience of working in situations where sustainability is paramount.”
Chosen specifically because of its sustainable characteristics, Smartroof is licensed to RK Timber Engineering who is partnering with Barratt Developments PLC on the BRE project.
After completing extensive trials in several of Barratt’s other properties, the system has now been implemented in the innovative Barratt Green House at the Centre.
Smartroof’s interlocking panel system is designed to speed up the construction process due to the speed at which it can be erected. It incorporates an insulated envelope, which provides water tightness within a day, allowing a first fix to take place immediately.
